I am sorry for that email going to NatureNS. It was a link to copy for an eBird report I was submitting for the NS Records that I meant to send to myself but the wrong “na…†email address got tapped. My apologies.
This was a post on the NSBS Facebook page for a Cardinal on Isle Madame in Cape Breton that I wanted to make sure was entered into eBird for the NSBS Records. Not considered rare birds there but there are very few seen on Cape Breton Island.
On another note, I heard Wood Frogs calling along with the Spring Peepers on this mild morning near a wooded swamp. I usually hear Peepers now and again in Fall but not usually Wood Frogs.

We had our first Evening Grosbeaks of the season (~30), and first ever
at our new house in French Cove. Karen Burke of Whiteside, Richmond Co.
has an immature male Oriole at her feeder.

That could be true too Dave. I just found this from Global News. "The
lockdown induced by the COVID-19 pandemic
<https://globalnews.ca/tag/COVID-19> seems to have left a lot of people
feeling caged, and as many reach out to their feathered friends for
company, demand for sunflower seeds is rising."
And the Western Producer says "Booming bird seed sales have exhausted
sunflower supplies from last year’s crop in both Canada and the United
States. ....In most years, oilseed sunflowers sell for 20 to 25 cents
per pound in Manitoba. Right now, some farmers are asking for 40 cents
per lb."

I went to the Bulk Barn today for Niger seeds but they didn't have any,
and they didn't a week ago. Costco hasn't had sunflower seeds. I'm
wondering if Covid -19 has resulted in more families starting up bird
feeding at home since they are spending more time there. This
additional demand might account for the shortages. I can't think of
anything else that might have disrupted the supply chain.

Those who get the eBird Alert will notice the report of a Canyon
Wren(!). Don accidentally clicked the wrong choice on eBird. It should
read Carolina Wren - same bird we've had off & on for some time now.Â
Apologies!

We had an American Robin still in juvenile plumage in our back yard before the snow started. Later, at the peak of the snow, a Hermit Thrush flew low across the Sackville Lakes park trail and landed beside the trail fora moment giving us a good look.
We now have at least 7 pheasants frequenting our yard. Two of this year’s brood have morphed into males, so we have three males. Papa is trying his best to drive away the young males.

I see in today's Halifax Chronicle Herald that Ronnie Kenney of Clark's Harbour has passed away. He was the reason that many of us birders were able to visit Seal Island for many years. He will be fondly remembered. Ronnie was 89.
