Sun: Sept 20/20
Amazingly we still have a single imm. fem RTHU here on Wolfville Ridge Rd,
maybe one from a late nesting or possibly a transient who turned up a few
days after the last of our known resident imm. fem left Sept 11. This
hummer is very nervous of anybody being around the hummer feeders, does not
follow the pattern of the previous residents, which makes me wonder as to
her origin.
Are others noticing different RTHU behaviour this year? It has been an
unusual hummer departure here.
Big exodus left early, by Aug 5, including 2 of our 3 ad fems with almost
1/2 of their broods, most unusual. Our ad male set a late departure record
for here by one day, leaving Aug 30. Third fem ad and two imms. left over
first Sept weekend with a single imm fem remaining until Sept 11. Feeling
that that was the last of our hummingbirds for this year, I was surprised
and delighted to find another young RTHU a few days later at our feeders but
she is acting differently, easily spooked if she sees movement within our
house, and she has been here a week now.
My latest recorded dep. date for RTHUs here has been Sept 16.
