I wonder if the National Tree Seed Centre in Fredericton (https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/science-data/research-centres-labs/forestry-research-centres/atlantic-forestry-centre/national-tree-seed-centre/13449) could help.  A couple of years ago, I was in touch re. Hemlocks (threatened by the adelgid) and black ash (Thought I’d hit a lot of them down here in God’s country, but they turned out to be a European species!).

Donnie McPhee (donnie.mcphee@canada.ca) is the go-to guy and can probably identify go-to people in N.S.

Do I gather that there is no reasonable prospect of re-establishing Beech here, once Orchestes has finished off all the existing trees? It seems to me that the weevil must disappear from the province eventually, once the food plant is gone, but that it could easily come back if beeches are re-established.

If there were any hope, perhaps some seedlings could be started under glass now with a view to planting them in suitable habitat with some sort of mechanical protection from the weevil - a covering of some sort?
