Thank you, Wayne!
I did miss this anniversary & know so well, the wonderful information & guidance,
Robie Tufts gave to us all! I was gifted this very informative book, "Birds of Nova
Scotia" Third Edition, 1986, by my Mom, who loved birds, and knew I did too. It
actually, was hers & was willed to me, after her passing in 2001. One of the most
cherished gifts and one of my most wonderful memories of my Mom....I use it often.

Just a note to remind us all to take a moment to reflect on the founder of the Nova
Scotia Bird Society and author of the original "Birds of Nova Scotia" in 1962
and to suggest, as he often did, that we try to get out and observe some migrant
shorebirds on this date. This is the 136th anniversary of his birth, and he not only
brought some law to the protection of birds here but introduced them to students in school
through visits and his 1934 book "Some Common Birds of Nova Scotia". That was
the first bird book that I can remember, and usually the only one in rural school
libraries
Late afternoon will see the tide coming in to Minas Basin, and so probably be best for
viewing at Grand Pré and Evangeline Beach. There seem to be no organized outings, either
by Blomidon Naturalists or the NSBS, perhaps because of COVID-19, but try to meet another
birder (while social distancing) anyway, while you are out.
