Hi,
Hypothetical indeed, although not impossible. Golden Eagles have
occurred, rarely, in most of NS , but only one every few years around the
province. Problem is they look like several other large dark birds,
especially immature Bald Eagles, and unless you can really describe the
differences in structure and plumage, or get a diagnostic photo, it will
remain hypothetical.
In 40 years of birding in NS I have seen 2 and photographed 1 Golden
Eagle. But recently I had to "eat crow" because I have long dismissed
reports of Golden Eagles by visitors or beginner birders in the Valley,
where Bald Eagles are almost a dime a dozen. But not long ago another
birder, who is far more astute than I am, described in detail a Golden
soaring with the Baldies, including the differences and the details. So
nothing's impossible. And who would have thought that a Steller's Sea Eagle
would have shown up here?

wet to get airborne. It recovered at CWC. So they definitely have been in
your wider area.

Around 10 A.M., I was driving north on Haley Road, about to pass the end
of the runway at Yarmouth Airport, when a dark-coloured heron flew over
said end from north to south. Not sure of the species.
That same day, a knowledgeable friend is sure he saw a golden eagle flying
over Yarmouth. A day later, my brother and his daughter saw what may have
been the same bird flying low over forested area, to the east of the Ellis
Road in Chebogue. The area in question is near a slaughter house.
Several years back in January, a strongly-suspected Golden was tending the
same area. One of the slaughter house workers got close enough to see
feathered tarsi on the bird. All that was missing to confirm were photos.
