Subject: HRM approves recommendations to develop regulation of short-term
rentals
To:
Hi everyone,
Just a note to let you know that HRM Council has approved the Staff
proposal to move ahead with developing regulations of short-term rentals. A
centre piece, from our perspective, is the emphasis on only permitting STRs
in primary residences, within residential zones and to include STRS in the
municipal registration of rental properties. Obviously, as a region-wide
initiative, this will involve a lot of work, time and further
consultations. However, it gets the ball rolling and hopefully we can see
some progress before the next tourist season begins.
Thank you everyone for keeping on this and communicating with your
Councillors and others. The vote was nearly unanimous. Councillor Whitman
voted against.
I will share more once I look at the minutes and see where this goes next.
I expect it will be post-election before we see further developments. I've
included the link to the original proposal and report.
