Here is a copy of the letter I sent after signing the petition. Thanks, Susanna, for the
push.
Dear Mayor Savage and HRM Councillors,
I would like to make some comments on green space available in our beautiful city, and on
the potential the Bloomfield property holds for that corner of the city that it anchors.
Haligonians own this property, and we have a chance to design and create something which
will benefit us all.
Small green spaces in downtown areas create community in a way that apartment buildings
do not. There is a tiny pocket park near where I live, on the corners of Fuller Terrace,
Ontario Street and Belle Aire Terrace. People of all ages use it. Kids play in the small
playground, young and old play table tennis, and residents of nearby Northwood sit under
the trees. There is an annual Carol Singing and tree decorating,  which has been going
for about 20 years. Potluck dinners happen there, and passersby are welcomed. This little
park is a credit to the forward thinking of Halifax Councillors and city planners, and
we are forever grateful.
The Halifax Common, Citadel Hill and Point Pleasant Park are well used, particularly by
sports teams. However, as the city density increases, the need for neighbourhood green
spaces where people can gather and ‘hang out’ together will continue to increase. The
Bloomfield property is giving us an opportunity to design and create something
extraordinary. It could be a space and a place that is used by thousands of Haligonians
into the future. If we sell this property, the opportunity is lost, and, unfortunately, it
is lost forever.
I ask that the sale of the Bloomfield property be put on hold while a public
consultation is conducted.
 Thank you.

In all of my advocacy on various issues over the years, the one that has been the most
difficult, and with the most ups and downs is less than a block from my house. I'm
determined to try one more time, to have the right thing done with two square blocks of
public property in the middle of a growing city.
If you live in Halifax - please consider asking HRM to reconsider its current plans to
sell the entire two blocks of the old Bloomfield School to a private developer. HRM has
done no public consultation on this development since 2007. A lot has changed since then,
including most recently HRM council with the 2020 election.
